Today's reading, it is a Biblical passage that speaks about the birth of John the Baptist and the song of Zechariah, who is John's father. The main message that we may get from this passage is the several aspects of the Faith and our relationship with God.

One of the key points in this reading is how Elizabeth gives birth to a son. A son that she named John, just as the angel had announced previously. Although Zechariah was surprised upon receiving this news, he was embraced by the Holy Spirit and made a song. A song from which it expresses gratitude to God, for how He accomplished His word for the promises He made to His people. Zechariah also prophesizes how John the Baptist will be playing his part in God's plan.

Fidelity to God and obedience to His will are always rewarded. They always get us nearer to Him and to many blessings. That is the key message of this passage.

“Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself!" – Luke 4: 23.

We can learn more about Jesus's actions and behavior in today's reading. For example, we can observe how He was able to enter the synagogues with his reading of the Prophet Isaiah. Everyone was fully focused on His words and His grace upon explaining the Scriptures.

But Jesus was also brave. He rebuked the people of his hometown by saying '"Truly I tell you; no prophet is accepted in his hometown." As He told them about Elijah's time, how only one woman from Sidon was saved, and from the time of Elisha, a foreigner was saved. These prophets were only sent to them, to explain that God's will and blessing happened to those whom the people from the synagogue saw as unworthy.

We could also appreciate Jesus's ministry in Capernaum where He once again taught the people. People were amazed at His teaching because His words had authority. In the same synagogue in Capernaum, we see one of the very first miracles of Jesus. An exorcism of a man in the synagogue. Once more, we could perceive how His authority and Power would drive the demon away from the man's body. Even more so, we would see Him heal the sick, make more miracles, and save many. Until He was done, our Lord went to a solitary place.

While He was sought by the people and tried to make Him stay, He was steadfast in His idea of preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God, to go to the other towns, and keep preaching in them and the synagogues.

We should strive to be more like Christ. Charitable, yet able to rebuke others when necessary. Patient, loving and always acting with the Holy Spirit in us.

Espíritu Santo

"Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo..." - Lucas 4:1 LBLA

Si el agua simboliza vida, también puede representar muerte. El día de hoy voy a compartir sobre el bautismo de Jesús. Jesús fue bautizado en el río Jordán. Un hombre adulto de alrededor de 30 años de edad, estaba completamente consciente de lo que traería Su bautismo, la salvación de su alma. Cuando él entra en esas aguas, está aceptando la muerte a sí mismo. La muerte debida al pecado de la humanidad. Tan pronto como Jesús es bautizado, el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre él en forma de paloma. Nótese que la paloma no es el Espíritu Santo. El Espíritu Santo desciende en la forma corporal de una paloma y se escucha la voz del Abba Padre (Papito) diciendo: "Tú eres mi Hijo amado, el Amado; estoy muy complacido contigo".

Ya que Jesús está lleno del Espíritu Santo, Él (Jesús) es llevado al desierto por el Espíritu. Retrocedamos en la historia. Los israelitas vagaron por el desierto durante su viaje del Éxodo. Ellos tuvieron muchas penas mientras se encontraron allí, particularmente para alimentarse, lo que necesitó que Dios les diera maná que descendía del cielo a diario. Les tomó a los israelitas 40 años para entrar a la Tierra Prometida. Y fue aquí, en este mismo desierto, que Jesús es tentado por el diablo durante 40 días.

El evangelio de Lucas nombra a Jesús como Cristo (Mesías), Señor, Hijo de Dios e Hijo de hombre. En el Evangelio de Lucas capítulo 4 versículo 3, se describe el ataque directo que satanás hace a la identidad de Jesús. Él cuestiona directamente quién es Su padre y si Él es verdaderamente hijo (...Si eres el Hijo de Dios..).      

Ten en cuenta que cada vez que nos sentimos deprimidos, abrumados, con duda, decepcionados, sin esperanza, sin valor, que no somos hermosos, sin éxito o fracasado, que nadie ama a la persona que eres; siempre recuerda quién ha sembrado esa semilla en ti. ¡No te atrevas a caer en esa trampa!. Lo siguiente que sucederá es que satanás te atacará con las cosas con las que más estás luchando, aún las más simples y básicas. Jesús estaba ya muy hambriento al final de su ayuno y lo primero con lo que fue tentado fue con el pan y la comida.

Puede existir la posibilidad de que te falte algo que quieras y no tengas en tu diario vivir. Por ejemplo, puede que vivas en un matrimonio donde no haya amor, compañerismo  o demostraciones de amor físico y emocional por parte de tu pareja. La primera línea de ataque de satanás será tentarte a cometer adulterio o que busques las cosas que quieres, pero fuera de tu matrimonio.

Si trabajas duro y sólo cuentas con la casa en la que vives, satanás va a poner miedo en ti que vas a perderla y que te quedarás sin un lugar donde vivir. O puede hacerte pensar que tendrás una mala racha que te traerá pérdidas y escasez, y por ese miedo trabajas mucho y dices que no tienes tiempo para Dios. No tienes tiempo para compartir con los demás miembros de tu familia y te conviertes en una persona muy egocéntrica y autosuficiente donde tienes confianza en que es Dios quien te provee. Pueden haber innumerables ejemplos que puedo mencionar acerca de esto. Solo recuerda que lo que sea que nos haga falta, es temporal, tal como lo dijo Jesús: "No sólo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios" (Mateo 4:4).

Según el evangelio de Lucas, la segunda tentación fue la que, en tan sólo un instante, se le mostraron a Jesús todos los reinos del mundo y su gloria, y se le dijo que todo esto se le daría con la única condición de que adorara y sirviera a satanás. Ahora bien, todos sabemos que todo ya le pertenece a Jesús. De hecho, todo fue creado por la Palabra y la Palabra era Dios. La Palabra estaba con Dios. Entonces, ¿por qué se le presentó esta tentación? Bueno, todos sabemos que somos hijos de Dios, cierto? pero cuántas veces nos olvidamos de esto en tiempos de adversidad, lucha, ira, conflictos, violencia y en tiempos de espera por una respuesta.

Del mismo modo, satanás tentó a Jesús cuando su cuerpo estaba muy débil debido al hambre. Incluso si no tenemos un hogar o lugar donde vivir, si hemos sido engañados, si tenemos cobradores tocando a nuestras puertas, si somos agravados con abusos, o si perdemos nuestros trabajos, nuestra reputación se ha manchado, hemos sido traicionados, hayamos sido encarcelados e incluso perdido a nuestros seres queridos... ¡"Adora al Señor tu Dios y sírvele sólo a Él"!

Podemos ver que desde el Antiguo Testamento, Jerusalén tiene una gran importancia (y lo es para el cristianismo) pues es el lugar donde Jesucristo fue llevado en algunas ocasiones cuando era niño, predicó a los pobres en su vida adulta, fue crucificado al final de su vida terrenal y fue resucitado por Dios. Y es allí, de todos los lugares que existen en la tierra, que satanás lleva a Jesús. Satanás puede llevarte a tu lugar de origen, familia, recuerdos, posición o status social, trabajo, matrimonio, hijos, a aquello que esté muy cerca de tu corazón.

Finalmente, satanás pone en duda si Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. Vemos una y otra vez, que satanás quiere hacerte sentir inútil en tus debilidades. Esta vez el diablo o satanás querrá que hagas cosas terribles cuando te sientas miserable, en duda o desesperanza. ¡No te dejes engañar, no seas tan ingenuo, no pongas a Dios a prueba! La respuesta a todo esto es la fe. Mientras más escuches la Palabra de Dios, más fe tendrás.

Recuerda, Dios solo permitirá dificultades y tentaciones que puedas soportar. La Madre de Jesús ha de haber orado por su hijo mientras Él estaba en el desierto. Así que nuestra madre no te dejará caer, ella se aferrará a ti con fuerza, mientras luchas en las fauces del satanás. A quien servimos ha traído buenas nuevas a los pobres, ha enviado a libertar a los cautivos y recuperar la vista a los ciegos, a liberar a los oprimidos y a proclamar el año favorable del Señor. ¡No temas!

Jesus full of the Holy Spirit - Luke 4:1

If water is life, water can also be considered death. I am going to ponder a bit on the baptism of Jesus. Jesus was baptized in the river Jordan. A full-grown man about the age of 30, completely aware what His baptism will bring, salvation. When he goes into that water, its also death He is taking upon himself. The death due to the Sin of Mankind. As soon as Jesus is baptized, the Holy Spirit descends upon him in the form of dove. Please note the dove is not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit descends in the bodily form of a dove and the voice of Abba Father is heard. "You are my beloved Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased."

Since Jesus is filled with the Holy Spirit, He (Jesus) is led into the wilderness. Let us move back in history. The Israelites wandered through the wilderness during their journey of Exodus. The Israelites did struggle and particularly when they were hungry and it took God to give them manna daily. It took 40 years for the Israelites to enter the Promised Land. Here in this wilderness Jesus is tested for 40 days by the devil.

The gospel of Luke has mentioned Jesus as: Christ (Messiah), Lord, Son of God and Son of man.  In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 4 verse 3, the satan directly attacks Jesus's identity. He directly questions who His father is and who's Son He is (If you are the Son of God..)      

Keep in mind whenever we feel we are underwhelmed, overwhelmed, doubtful, disappointed, hopeless, worthless, not beautiful, not successful, no one loves the person I am, remember who has sowed that seed in you, (wink-wink). Don't you dare fall into that trap. Next the satan is going to attack you with the things you are struggling the most, the most basic thing. Jesus was famished by the time He was nearing the end of his fasting. And the first thing He was tempted with, was bread-food.

In your day-to-day life there could be a possibility that you could be lacking something you want and you don't have it. For example you are in a marriage where there is no love, no companionship, no physical or emotional love. The first line of attack of the satan would tempt you to commit adultery, or seek the things you want outside of your marriage.

If you working hard and you have the only house you are staying in, the satan is going to put fear into you that you would be homeless. Or there will be a rainy day that will bring you a downfall of fortune, and with that fear you keep working and in the bargain you don't have time for God. You don't have time for your family members and become a very self-centered,  self- reliant person where there is no trust that it is God who provides.

There can be endless examples I can quote. Just remember whatever we are lacking, it is only temporary, as said by Jesus Himself. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).

As per the gospel of Luke, the second temptation was that in an instant Jesus was showed all the kingdoms of the world and its glory and with the second temptation all of this can be given to Jesus only if He worshipped and served satan. Now we all know that everything belongs to Jesus, in fact everything was made by the Word and the Word was God. The Word was with God. So why this temptation? Well, we all know that we are children of God. And how many times have we forgotten this in times of adversity, struggle, anger, strife, violence, and in the waiting.

Like-wise satan tempted Jesus at the time when His body was weak due to hunger. So even if we are homeless, we have been duped, we have creditors knocking at our doors, we are hurled with abuses, lost our jobs, reputation tarnished, betrayed, we were put into prison, and even losing our loved ones . 'Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.'

Right from the time of Old Testament Jerusalem has great importance and Jerusalem is more important to Christianity because it is where Jesus Christ was occasionally brought as a child, preached to the poor in his adult life, crucified at the end of his life, and resurrected by God. Satan takes Jesus to Jerusalem of all the places.

Satan can lastly take you to your very own place, people, memory, position, job, marriage, children, something that's the closest to your heart. One final time the satan demands if Jesus is the Son of God. So, time and again satan makes you feel worthless with your downs. And this time the devil or satan may make you do some terrible things in your misery or doubts and hopelessness. Don't be fooled, don't be so naïve, do not be deceived, don't put God to test. The answer to all this is faith. The more you hear the Word of God, the more faith you will have.

Remember, God will only give you difficulties and temptations that one can handle. Our Mother, Jesus's Mother must have been praying for her son when He was in the wilderness. So will our mother not let you fall, she will hold on to you tight, as you battle in the jaws of the satan. The one we serve has brought good news to the poor, sent to release the captives free, recovery of sight to the blind, set free who are oppressed and the one to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour. Fear not!

Somos Cristianos. Hemos recibido los santos sacramentos del Bautismo, la Santa Comunión, la Reconciliación y la Confirmación. Algunos de nosotros fuimos ordenados sacerdotes en la Iglesia Católica. Así que hemos sido equipados con todo lo necesario para orar y hablar con nuestro Señor.

El pasaje del evangelio de hoy nos ayuda a detenernos un momento y pensar en la manera como oramos. Como padres, maestros y sacerdotes, tenemos mucha experiencia en este campo. Conocemos muy bien acerca de las oraciones de adoración, acción de gracias y de las de intercesión. Leemos en Hebreos 13:15 y Apocalipsis 4:11 acerca de la oración de adoración. Conocemos el Salmo 100 versículo 4 que nos habla de la necesidad de dar gracias. A menudo seguimos el ejemplo de Daniel (9:1-27) e intercedemos por otra persona o grupo de personas. Pero, ¿realmente abrimos nuestras almas al don del Espíritu Santo y buscamos ayuda en nuestras debilidades? (ver: Romanos 8:26-27)

Admito que, en ocasiones, mi oración es automática. Yo oro mucho: Eucaristía a diario, breviario 6 o 7 veces al día, las Escrituras. Pero aún así, me cuesta escuchar al Espíritu Santo que desciende parecido al sonido de una brisa suave (ver: 1 Reyes 19: 11-21). Como Elías, escapo de la realidad y quiero conocer al Dios que rasga las montañas y despedaza las rocas. Pero esto no sucede! Entonces, soy impaciente y hago mis planes y tomo mis propias decisiones. Me digo a mí mismo que mi Señor no me responde y dice lo que debo hacer.

El pasaje de hoy tocó muy profundo en mi interior. Sí, entiendo que tengo que pasar más tiempo en silencio delante de mi Señor. Necesito ser más paciente y abrir más mi corazón para que el Espíritu Santo descienda sobre mí. Solo entonces, estaré listo para recibir el mensaje: "Tú eres mi muy amado hijo, y me brindas una gran alegría". Amén.

Sus Sandalias

Juan respondió, diciendo a todos: "Yo os bautizo con agua; pero viene el que es más poderoso que yo; a quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de sus sandalias; Él os bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y fuego." - Lucas 3:16 LBLA

Reflexionando en la vida de Juan el Bautista, me sorprende conocer cómo el Espíritu Santo se manifestó en la vida del primo mayor de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Aun cuando era tan solo un feto, sobrenaturalmente dio un salto en el vientre de Elizabeth cuando María con gran emoción visitó a su prima para compartir la maravillosa noticia de su embarazo y que en su vientre albergaba al Hijo de Dios.

 

Si bien es cierto que Juan el Bautista estaba directamente relacionado con nuestro Señor Jesús, él mismo fue un símbolo del espíritu de humildad cuando declaró que no era digno de desatar las sandalias de Jesús. En otro relato bíblico, según el evangelio de Juan 3:29-30 (LBLA) "El que tiene la novia es el novio, pero el amigo del novio, que está allí y le oye, se alegra en gran manera con la voz del novio. Y por eso, este gozo mío se ha completado. Es necesario que Él crezca, y que yo disminuya."

 

Una declaración que confirma lo que Pablo escribió sobre nuestro Señor Jesús en Filipenses 2: 6-8 (LBLA) "el cual, aunque existía en forma de Dios, no consideró el ser igual a Dios como algo a qué aferrarse, sino que se despojó a sí mismo tomando forma de siervo, haciéndose semejante a los hombres. Y hallándose en forma de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz."

 

Admirable cualidad que la madre de Jesús replicó cuando recibió la sorprendente revelación de que siendo ella virgen iba a concebir y luego dar a luz al Hijo de Dios. Hermosa oración que quedó registrada en el Magníficat, según Lucas 1: 46-55 (LBLA): "Entonces María dijo: Mi alma engrandece al Señor, y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador. Porque ha mirado la humilde condición de esta su sierva; pues he aquí, desde ahora en adelante todas las generaciones me tendrán por bienaventurada. Porque grandes cosas me ha hecho el Poderoso; y santo es su nombre. Y de generación en generación es su misericordia para los que le temen. Ha hecho proezas con su brazo; ha esparcido a los soberbios en el pensamiento de sus corazones. Ha quitado a los poderosos de sus tronos; y ha exaltado a los humildes; a los hambrientos ha colmado de bienes y ha despedido a los ricos con las manos vacías. Ha ayudado a Israel, su siervo, para recuerdo de su misericordia tal como dijo a nuestros padres, a Abraham y a su descendencia para siempre."

 

Cierro mi participación con este hermoso himno Más cerca de ti, mi Dios (Nearer My God to Thee). Se dice que este himno era interpretado por el conjunto de cuerdas del Titanic, cuando el emblemático barco se hundía en el gélido mar del Océano Nor-Atlántico, llevándose consigo más de 1500 almas al fondo del mar.

His sandals

"I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. " - Luke 3:16

Reflecting on the life of John the Baptist, I'm amazed at how the Holy Spirit had been with this older cousin of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even when he was just a foetus he did a supernatural baby flip in Elizbeth's womb when Mary had excitedly visited her cousin to share the wonderful news of her own pregnancy with the Son of God. 

While he was closely related to our Lord Jesus, St. John was the mark of the spirit of humility when he declared that he was unworthy to untie Jesus' sandals. In another gospel account in John 3:29-30, he was quoted, "He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom who stands and hears him rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease."

A statement that echoes what St. Paul wrote about our Lord Jesus in Philipians 2:6-8, NRSV who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human, 8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.

A quality that was echoed by Jesus' mom when she received the startling revelation that she was going to bear the Son of God in her virgin body. A beautiful prayer encapsulated in the Magnificat, Luke 1:46-55, NRSV: 46 And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked with favor on the lowly state of his servant. Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name; 50 indeed, his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones and lifted up the lowly; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. 54 He has come to the aid of his child Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."

I will close my sharing with this beautiful hymn, Nearer My God to Thee. This hymn was allegedly played by the ill-fated Titanic's string ensemble as the monolithic ship was sinking into the icy seas of the North Atlantic Ocean, taking along with it more than 1500 souls.

Caelum apertum | Heavens opened

“As he was praying, the heavens opened” – Luke 3: 21 (NLT).

We are Christians. We have received the holy sacraments of baptism, Holy Communion, reconciliation, and confirmation. Some of us were ordained as priests in the Catholic Church. So we have everything necessary to pray and speak with our Lord.

Today the Gospel passage helps us stop for a while and think about our way of prayer. As parents, teachers, and priests, we have much experience in this field. We know precisely about prayers of worship, thanksgiving, and intercession. We read in Hebrew 13:15 and Revelation 4:11 about the prayer of worship. We know Psalm 100 verse 4 which tells us about the need for thanksgiving. We often follow the example of Daniel (9:1-27) and intercede for another person or group of people. But do we open our souls to the gift of the Holy Spirit and look for support in our weakness? (see: Rom 8:26-27).

I can admit that unfortunately, my prayer is sometimes automatic. I do pray a lot: daily Eucharist, breviary 6 or 7 times a day, the Scriptures. But still, I have a problem listening to the  Holy Spirit who comes in a sound of a gentle breeze (see: 1 King 19:11-21). Like Elijah, I escape from reality and want to know God who tears the mountains and shatters the rocks. But it does not happen at all. So I am impatient and make my own plans and decisions. I explain to myself that my Lord does not tell me what I should do.

Today's passage touches me very much. Yes, I do understand that I have to spend more time in silence before my Lord. I need to be more patient and opened for the Holy Spirit to descend on me. Entonces Él les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿Acaso no sabíais que me era necesario estar en la casa de mi Padre? - Lucas 2:49 LBLA

De todos los evangelios, Lucas es el único autor que registra esta historia de la infancia de Jesús, que tuvo lugar en Jerusalén. Las narraciones de Lucas son muy diferentes al los demás autores de la Biblia, ya que fue el único autor que tenía un origen gentil.

Lucas 2:49 es un versículo muy relevante pues es la primera vez que se registran las palabras de Jesús en la biblia. Algunas traducciones utilizan "asuntos del Padre" en lugar de "casa del Padre".

El tiempo es muy valioso en nuestras vidas y se hace muy fácil perderlo en cosas que no son realmente importantes o esenciales. El versículo 49 nos recuerda que debemos enfocar nuestro tiempo y prioridades en las cosas eternas. Jesús, siendo un niño de apenas doce años y encontrándose en Jerusalén, pudo haber enfocado su tiempo y atención en muchas cosas. La ciudad ofrecía varias opciones de diversión interesantes y fascinantes, desde sus mercados hasta sus sitios históricos. Sin embargo, sus padres lo encontraron en el templo. Allí estaba escuchando, haciendo preguntas inteligentes y dando respuestas que mostraban una entendimiento inusual.

Estos versículos nos recuerdan que debemos seguir el ejemplo de Jesús. Si tú quieres crecer espiritualmente, debes priorizar tiempo para leer y estudiar la Palabra de Dios. Deberíamos estar escuchando y prestando atención a aquellos que enseñan la Palabra, deberíamos también leer la Palabra de Dios nosotros mismos, hacer preguntas y meditar en las verdades que leemos en Su bendita palabra.

Estos versículos en Mateo 6:19-21 (LBLA) también nos sirven como un recordatorio a enfocarnos en las cosas celestiales: 

"No os acumuléis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones penetran y roban; sino acumulaos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones no penetran ni roban; porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón."

Oremos al Señor que enfoquemos nuestro tiempo y energía en lo que es realmente importante.

From the gospels, Luke is the only author that records this boyhood story that took place in Jerusalem. Luke is quite unique among all the Bible authors, since he was the only Gentile author.

Luke 2:49 is quite a significant verse as it is the first recorded words of Jesus. Some translations use ‘’Father’s business” instead of “Father’s house”.

In our lives, time is very precious. It is so easy to waste time on things that are not really important and not essential. Verse 49 reminds us to focus our time and priorities on eternal things.  As a twelve-year old boy in Jerusalem, Jesus could have focused his time and attention on many things. The city offered many interesting and exciting experiences ranging from marketplaces to historical sites. Yet his parents found him in the temple. There he was listening, asking intelligent questions, and giving answers that showed unusual understanding.

These verses reminds us to follow Jesus’ example. If you want to grow spiritually, you must prioritize time for the Word of God. We should be listening to those who teach the Word, read the Word ourselves, ask questions, and think about the truths we read in the Word of God.

These verses in Matthew 6:19-21 also helps as a reminder to focus on the heavenly things:  “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Let’s pray that we will focus our time and energy on what is really important.

¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas!

En esta porción de la escritura, nos trasladamos a aquel momento en la historia bíblica en donde se narra el nacimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en esta tierra y cómo Dios Padre alineó perfectamente todos los acontecimientos para hacer posible tal magnífico y relevante momento en la historia. Este solo acontecimiento transformaría la historia de la humanidad y haría una separación entre el antes y el después.

La historia nos narra cómo José con su esposa María, son obligados a cumplir con un Censo de Impuestos que era obligatorio para todo habitante de aquella tierra. Esto los forzó a emprender un peregrinaje desde Galilea hacia la ciudad de David, llamada Belén (que en hebreo significa "casa del pan") pues José era un descendiente y pertenecía a la casa y al linaje de David.

En aquellos días, María se encontraba ya avanzada en su embarazo y mientras se encontraban allí, el tiempo de alumbramiento se cumplió, dando a luz a su hijo primogénito. La Luz del mundo estaba por nacer. Para brillar y transformar los corazones y las vidas de todo aquel que fuera alcanzado por su amor. El mayor y más grande evento en la historia estaba por ser presenciado y registrado desde ese momento y para toda la eternidad.

El Rey de Reyes y Señor de Señores, dueño de todo los cielos y la tierra, de todo lo visible e invisible, decidió venir a habitar en medio de nosotros y tomar forma de un pequeño, frágil, inocente y delicado bebé. El no escogió nacer en medio de una familia de la realeza o adquirir nombre de rey terrenal o nacer en un majestuoso palacio, tener las más delicadas prendas, ser envuelto en sábanas de seda, dormir en una cuna de oro o contar con una multitud de sirvientes para presenciar su nacimiento. Por el contrario, humildemente escogió un pesebre para ser recostado, ser envuelto en pañales y tener a pastores y ganado como testigos de su nacimiento.

De esta manera, lo que estaba escrito por los profetas desde cientos de años atrás se estaba cumpliendo en ese momento:

Jeremías 33:15 LBLA. "En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo haré brotar de David un Renuevo justo, y Él hará juicio y justicia en la tierra."

 

Isaías 16:5 LBLA.  "Se establecerá en la misericordia un trono, y en él se sentará con fidelidad, en la tienda de David, un juez que busque lo justo y esté presto a la justicia."

 

El no vino a esta tierra a obtener o amasar riquezas materiales o vanagloria. El vino para salvarte a ti y a mí y eliminar todos los edictos que nos eran contrarios que nos conducirían a una pena de muerte capital.

 

El descendió a este mundo para cumplir la bendita palabra del Señor y sus promesas, que como dice en Isaías 61:1-3 (LBLA) dice: "El Espíritu del Señor Dios está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido el Señor para traer buenas nuevas a los afligidos; me ha enviado para vendar a los quebrantados de corazón, para proclamar libertad a los cautivos y liberación a los prisioneros; para proclamar el año favorable del Señor, y el día de venganza de nuestro Dios; para consolar a todos los que lloran, para conceder que a los que lloran en Sión se les dé diadema en vez de ceniza, aceite de alegría en vez de luto, manto de alabanza en vez de espíritu abatido; para que sean llamados robles de justicia, plantío del Señor, para que Él sea glorificado."

 

Que la luz del Señor Jesucristo nazca en nuestros corazones y mentes cada día, recordándonos del gran sacrificio de su muerte y resurrección por el perdón de nuestros pecados, todo por su inmenso amor. Siempre recuerda que eres amado, que eres valioso, que has sido justificado y que eres parte de esta familia santa de sacerdotes y ministros del Altísimo.

 

Glorifiquemos y alabemos a Dios en las alturas por habernos dado a su precioso hijo unigénito para limpiarnos, justificarnos y redimirnos de todo pecado y librarnos de una muerte eterna. No nos quedemos callados de las maravillas, milagros y obras que Dios ha hecho en nuestras vidas y por todo lo que hemos visto y oído. Aleluya, Maranata, Cristo viene pronto!

Glory to God in the highest!

In this portion of the Scriptures, we are taken to that moment of time were our Lord Jesus Christ was to born on this earth and how God Father perfectly aligned all events to make possible this magnificent and relevant moment in time. An event that would transform mankind history and break it through into a before and after.

We learn how Joseph and his espoused Mary are forced to comply with a tax decree norm for all. Pushing them to start a pilgrimage from Galilee into the city of David, Bethlehem (which in Hebrew means "house of bread") because Joseph was of the house and lineage of David.

In those days, Mary was great with child and while there, days were accomplished that she should be delivered and she brought forth his firstborn. The light of the world was about to born. To shine and transform the hearts and lives of any who was touch with his love. The biggest and greatest event in history was about to be witnessed and recorded from that moment to eternity.

The King of Kings and Lord of Lord's, owner of all heaven and earth, all visible an invisible decided to come to dwell among us and took the form of a small, fragile and delicate baby. He didn't choose an earthy royal family or name, a majestic palace, expensive clothes or silk sheets, a gold crib, or multiple servants to witness his birth moment. On the contrary, he humbly chose a manger to be laid down, got wrapped in swaddling clothes and had shepherds and livestock as witnesses of his birth.

In this way, what was written by the prophets hundreds of years before was accomplished in that moment:

Jer 33:15 KJV In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

Isa 16:5 KJV And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.

He didn't came to this earth to get material richness or vain glory. He came to save you and me from the edicts that were contradictory to us. To release us from a capital sentence to death.

He descended to this world to accomplish the Lord's Holy Word and promises (Isaiah 61:1-3), anointed to preach good tidings unto the meek; sent to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint those that mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

May the light of the Lord be born every day in our hearts and minds. Reminding us of the great sacrifice of his dead and resurrection, all because of the greatest love of all times. Always remember that you are loved, you are worthy, you are justified, you are part of this holy family of priests and ministers of the Almighty. 

Let's glorify and praise God in the highest for gifting us his precious only child to cleanse, justify and redeem us from all sin and eternal death. Let's not keep silent of the marvelous and great workings of God in our lives and for all the things that we had heard and seen. Hallelujah, Maranatha!

Omne verbum | Palabra de Dios

"La palabra de Dios nunca fallará" - Lucas 1:37

Tenemos muchas razones para temer. Hay disturbios en muchos países, como Francia, Sudáfrica y Papúa Nueva Guinea. Lo sabemos porque vivimos en esas áreas donde existe ansiedad pública. Así que es una experiencia normal y humana tener miedo. Además, en nuestra vida diaria hay tantas luchas y dificultades. Si somos un poco empáticos, también solemos involucramos cuando nuestros amigos y familiares están sufriendo por algún motivo. 

Lucas (1:26-38) describe la personalidad de la Santísima María que fue una mujer favorecida (v. 28). Ella vivía en la presencia del Señor. Nunca estuvo sola, sin embargo, pudo haber experimentado miedo en su vida. Ella soñaba con un hermoso futuro con su amado compañero Joseph. Todo estaba muy bien preparado y organizado. Pero el mensajero que fue enviado por Dios le confundió y perturbó.  Ella creyó y confió en el Señor, cuya palabra nunca falla. Sin embargo, no pudo entender la voluntad de Dios. 

También sucede en nuestras vidas cuando tenemos nuestros planes y sueños. Queremos que se conviertan en realidad. Pero Dios regularmente tiene un plan diferente para nosotros. Entonces, nos confundimos y perturbamos. Aunque la Palabra divina nos inspira, todavía somos débiles y no es fácil para nosotros aceptar las decisiones de Dios. Por esa razón, necesitamos el don del Espíritu Santo. Por nuestra propia cuenta no podemos dar la bienvenida a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador y Redentor personal. Por nuestra propia cuenta sólo podemos vivir por un corto tiempo, pero no por la eternidad en el reino de Dios. Por nuestra cuenta tenemos demasiadas preguntas sin respuestas. 

Como la Santísima Virgen, debemos abrir nuestro corazón para el Hijo de Dios y su Sagrada Escritura. Podemos ver a tantos cristianos que siguieron la enseñanza divina. Experimentaron milagros en sus vidas. No es cierto que seamos como tierra estéril. Somos capaces de dar vida gracias al poder del Espíritu Santo. Sólo tenemos que aceptar y vivir conforme a la voluntad de Dios. 

Aunque no comprendamos todo el plan de Dios, podemos ser fieles siervos y discípulos de la Buena Nueva. No nos olvidemos de los santos ángeles que nos apoyan y nos protegen. Podemos estar seguros de que todo lo que hemos leído en la Biblia acerca de nosotros se hará realidad. Solo necesitamos ser pacientes y mantener una fe fuerte.

Omne verbum | Word of God

"The word of God will never fail" - Luke 1:37.

 

 

We have many reasons to fear. There are riots in many countries, like France, South Africa, Papua New Guinea. We know it because we live in the areas of public anxieties. So it's a normal and human experience to be afraid. Besides, in our daily life there are so many struggles and difficulties. If we are a bit empathetic, we also engage when our friends and relatives do suffer. 

Luke (1:26-38) describes the personality of the Blessed Mary who was a favored woman (v. 28). She lived in the presence of the Lord. She was never alone. Yet, she could experience fear in her life. She dreamed about beautiful future with her beloved partner Joseph. Everything was well-prepared and organized. But she got confused and disturbed by the messenger who was sent by God. She believed and trusted in the Lord whose word never fails. Even so, she could not understand the will of God. 

It also happens in our lives when we have our plans and dreams. We want them to become true. But God often has a different plan for us. So, we get confused and disturbed. Although the divine Word inspires us, we are still weak and it's not easy for us to accept God's decisions. For that reason, we do need the gift of the Holy Spirit. On our own we cannot welcome Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Redeemer. On our own we can only live for a short time but not forever in the kingdom of God. On our own we have too many questions without answers. 

Like the Blessed Virgin we are to open our heart for the Son of God and his Holy Scripture. We can see so many Christians who followed the divine teaching. They did experience miracles in their lives. It is not true that we are like barren land. We are capable of giving life thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit. We only have to agree with the will of God. 

Although, we do not comprehend the whole plan of God, we can be faithful servants and disciples of the Good News. Let us not forget about the holy angels who support and guard us. We can be sure that everything we have read in the Bible about us will come true. We only need to be patient and keep our strong faith.

Pero el ángel le dijo: "No temas, Zacarías, porque tu oración ha sido escuchada. Tu esposa Elizabeth te dará un hijo, y tú lo llamarás Juan - Lucas 1: 13.

Reflexionando en las interacciones que tuvieron el ángel Gabriel y Zacarías, me sorprende cómo Dios es consistente en llevar su plan de salvación a término, así como también cómo Su poder se manifiesta en nuestras debilidades. Podemos ver esto con Abraham y Sara quienes engendraron y concebieron en su vejez al hijo de la promesa Isaac, cuando era biológicamente imposible. Sin embargo, el Dios del Yo Soy Posible abrió el vientre de Sara y la convirtió en la madre de Isaac en su vejez (Isaac, palabra hebrea que significa sonrisa). Esto les representó mucha alegría, esa alegría tan esperada que esta pareja de ancianos experimentó luego de una larga espera de más de veinte años, desde que Dios le reveló por primera vez a Abraham la promesa y bendición de que sería padre de muchas naciones. De la misma manera, Dios mantuvo un gran silencio y no se hizo escuchar por Israel por más de 400 años, y fue entonces cuando el ángel Gabriel revela el nacimiento de Juan el Bautista, quien Dios destinó para ser el precursor del Mesías. 

Está es la hermosa oración de Zacarías cuando llegó el momento de circuncidar al niño:

"Profesía de Zacarías

Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, porque nos ha visitado y ha efectuado redención para su pueblo, y nos ha levantado un cuerno de salvación en la casa de David su siervo, tal como lo anunció por boca de sus santos profetas desde los tiempos antiguos, salvación de nuestros enemigos y de la mano de todos los que nos aborrecen; para mostrar misericordia a nuestros padres, y para recordar su santo pacto, el juramento que hizo a nuestro padre Abraham: concedernos que, librados de la mano de nuestros enemigos, le sirvamos sin temor en santidad y justicia delante de Él, todos nuestros días. Y tú, niño, serás llamado profeta del Altísimo; porque irás delante del Señor para preparar sus caminos; para dar a su pueblo el conocimiento de la salvación por el perdón de sus pecados, por la entrañable misericordia de nuestro Dios, con que la Aurora nos visitará desde lo alto, para dar luz a los que habitan en tinieblas y en sombra de muerte, para guiar nuestros pies en el camino de paz.

Reflexionando sobre el Cántico de Zacarías en Lucas 1: 68-79, no puedo evitar sorprenderme de la fe que demuestran las parejas sin hijos que podemos ver en la Biblia: Abraham y Sara, Rebeca e Isaac, Raquel y Jacob, Manoa y su esposa, Ana y Elcana e Elizabeth y Zacarías. Todos ellos esperaron la promesa con fe a pesar de la aparente esterilidad que experimentaron. Largos y agonizantes años de espera en el Señor, hasta que las promesas de Dios se cumplieron con partos milagrosos como respuesta a múltiples oraciones desesperadas.  Mientras que yo, por otro lado, luego de enfrentar algunos desafíos en la vida o experimento una retraso en la respuesta a mis oraciones, levanté los puños y mi enojo al cielo, e incluso intenté huir de Dios. Sin embargo, Dios el Padre Celestial (en Su infinita sabiduría y misericordia) nunca me dejó ir, sino que me perseguió con su amor incansable que se extiende hasta la eternidad.

Que esta sea un cántico de oración para uno de nosotros a medida que el Señor nos guíe a aguas más profundas de confianza, fe y discipulado: "Espíritu guíame a donde mi confianza sea sin fronteras, déjame caminar sobre las aguas donde Tu me llames. Llévame más profundo de lo que mis pies podrían llegar y mi fe se fortalezca en la presencia de mi Salvador".
