Servant

Dear brothers and sisters. On 19 September 2021, Pope Francis said in his homily that greatness and success are not measured by what someone has, but by what someone gives. In other words, someone's quality of life is based on something other than position but on service. Servicing others opens a deep relation to God and receives God's presence and love. 

The Last Supper was an event in which Jesus ate with His disciples before He suffered, was agonized and died. Jesus knew His life was ending, and there was little time left to teach many things with words and parables. Therefore, He modelled essential aspects of life to His disciples through actions, namely, eating together and washing his disciples' feet. Jesus left memories of togetherness, unity and service from these two events. 

Eating together allowed Jesus to meet His disciples while emphasizing himself as the source of life. If bread and wine can nourish the body, then His body and shed blood are the source of food and drink that can nourish the soul. 

In addition, through the washing of feet, two meanings are contained. Firstly, Jesus built His relationship with God the Father, to receive God the Father's presence and love in him. He realised that He was sent not to be served but to serve. And this task He did until the end of his life. Secondly, Jesus set an example through action for the disciples to see, experience and follow. As a teacher, Jesus realized that a living example is more tangible than words. Therefore, He wanted the disciples to serve Him in their lives.

The meal and the washing of feet were symbols of sacrifice, togetherness, humility and service. These values still resonate amid a social life crisis that should be echoed so that life becomes more dignified. Once again, a person becomes great not because of what he has, but because of what he gives. The most memorable gift is the gift of true self.

En el versículo 35, se utiliza una metáfora que ilustra un punto sin retorno al que hemos llegado. Jesús nos insta a caminar con seguridad bajo la luz del amor, la felicidad y la honestidad, que ilumina nuestro camino. Debemos perseverar en buscar el resplandor de estos sentimientos nobles para asemejarnos lo más posible al Señor. En esta analogía, la luz representa a Dios, y todos estamos llamados a seguir su luz; de lo contrario, nos perderemos en las tinieblas del pecado y la perdición. Necesitamos mantener la fe en la luz para ser parte de ella, para ser nosotros mismos partes del amor y parte de Dios.

En el versículo 42, Jesús señala que muchos creyeron en él pero no lo admitieron, por temor a ser expulsados de la sinagoga. En consecuencia, valoraban más la opinión de los hombres que la de Dios.

Jesús, sin embargo, aclara que no vino a condenar a nadie, sino a salvar el mayor número de almas posible. Concluye afirmando que sus palabras no son suyas, sino del que lo envió, es decir, de Dios.

Es crucial interpretar el significado profundo detrás de tanta sabiduría. En todo momento, debemos seguir el camino del bien, el amor y la justicia, ya que estas cualidades nos hacen mejores y contribuyen a hacer del mundo un lugar mejor para todos.

Reflexión sobre Juan 12:27-50 por Iván

Lumen | The light | EN | ES |

"Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you". - John 12:35

In verse 35 there is a metaphor that indicates how we had reached a point of no return. Jesus specifies that we must walk safely because the light of love, happiness and honesty illuminates our path. We have to keep looking for the brightness of these good feelings because these help us to become as similar as possible to the LORD. The light in this case is God and we are all called to follow his light otherwise we will find ourselves lost wandering in the darkness of sin and perdition. We must continue to believe in the light to become part of that light, ourselves part of love, part of God.

In verse 42, Jesus specifies that many people believed in him but did not admit him, so as not to be expelled from the synagogue. They therefore considered the opinion of men more important than the opinion of God.

Jesus, however, specifies that he did not come to condemn anyone, but rather to save as many souls as possible. He concludes by saying that his words are not his words, but those of the one who sent him, that is, God.

It is important to read between the lines the meaning of so much wisdom.  In any case we must always follow good, love and righteousness. Because these are the qualities that make us better and that make the world better for everyone.

"Él no dijo esto solo, sino que siendo sumo sacerdote aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación, y no sólo por la nación, sino para reunir en uno a los hijos de Dios dispersos." - Juan 11: 51-52

Los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos concertaron una reunión para encontrar formas de destruir a Jesús. No vieron a Jesús como un salvador de la nación sino más bien como una amenaza. Caifás, que era el sumo sacerdote ese año, da una profecía que decía que era mejor que un hombre muriera por el pueblo a que toda la nación sea destruida. Jesús nació para morir. Su muerte no fue un final como tal sino un medio para alcanzar la resurrección. Jesús murió no sólo por la nación judía, sino como la Escritura deja muy claro dice que El que reunirá consigo a todos los hijos de Dios dispersos.

Leemos en el Evangelio de Juan 10:16 – "Tengo otras ovejas que no son de este redil. A ellas también debo traer, y oirán mi voz. Así habrá un solo rebaño, un solo pastor". Jesús no excluye ni evita a nadie. Él invita a todos a venir a él. Los que escuchen su voz, los que sigan sus instrucciones y estén dispuestos a obedecerle, serán salvos y no se perderán.

Como leemos en el Evangelio de Juan 3:16- "Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su único Hijo, para que todo el que cree en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna". Ya estaba en el plan divino de Dios Padre que el mundo pudiera salvarse por medio de su Hijo. Este acto de salvación, como todos sabemos, fue doloroso.

Como hijos de Dios, también somos igualmente responsables de participar en la misión de Jesús, siendo esta la de salvar todas las almas. Al igual que Jesús, puede ser una misión dolorosa, pero con la gracia y el poder de Dios podemos hacerlo. Necesitamos buscar a la perdida dejando atrás a las noventa y nueve. Ayudemos a Jesús a reunir a los hijos de Dios dispersos.

Reflexionando sobre el pasaje del Evangelio, el cual relata los días previos al arresto de Jesús, incluida la multitud que emocionada agitaba palmas y gritaba "¡Hosanna! Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel. El relato completo deja de manifiesto la inconstancia y los engaños del corazón humano. Esto contrasta con la firmeza y certeza de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

 

Nuestro Señor mira directamente a nuestros corazones pecaminosos y sabe que todos estamos llenos de pecado. Había caminado con firmeza el camino doloroso y sangriento hacia el Calvario, pagando por los pecados de cada hombre, mujer y niño que lo reconoce como Señor y Salvador personal. Como escribió perspicazmente Pablo en Romanos 3:23-24: "por cuanto todos pecaron y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios, ahora están justificados gratuitamente por su gracia, mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús". Nuestro Señor compartiendo con su discípulo sobre su inminente sacrificio. Se sometió obedientemente a la voluntad de Dios y recibió la copa de la ira de Dios como precio de redención perfecto por los pecados de la humanidad. Como escribió tan bellamente Juan según Juan 3:16: "Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su único Hijo, para que todo el que cree en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna".

 

Al reflexionar sobre mi vida antes y después de conocer a Jesús, me brotan lágrimas de profunda gratitud al reconocer cómo un Salvador sin pecado pudo morir por un pecador como yo. Pero esta es exactamente la razón por la que nuestro Señor Jesús vino a la Tierra. No vino a la Tierra para disfrutar de una vida privilegiada de realeza. De hecho, fue tan humilde que el Rey de reyes nació en un comedero para animales, rodeado de animales de granja y de Sus padres.

 

Por tanto, ¿cuál es mi respuesta a esta misericordia y gracia inmerecida de Dios, pagadas con la sangre de Jesús? ¿Será mi respuesta un amor extravagante, como María que ungió los pies de Jesús con una libra de nardo puro (que valía el salario de un año)? ¿O seré calculador como Judas (que traicionó a su Maestro por el bajo precio de un esclavo)? ¿O seré como la multitud que canta gozosas alabanzas a Jesús cuando las cosas van bien y, sin embargo, escupen en el rostro de nuestro Señor durante Su juicio y ejecución? ¿O soy como los líderes religiosos, con el corazón envenenado por los celos y orgullo religioso, incapaz siquiera de reconocer el rostro del Hijo de Dios que caminó entre ellos?

 

¿Puedo adoptar la actitud correcta como la de Pablo, quien escribió maravillosas epístolas de gran aliento y alegría al estar detrás de las rejas de la prisión, y compartió los secretos de su alegría y contentamiento en medio de las pruebas de la vida? En Filipenses 4:10-13: "Me alegro mucho en el Señor de que ahora, al fin, habéis reavivado vuestro interés por mí; en verdad, os preocupabais por mí, pero no pudisteis demostrarlo. No es que me refiero a ser en necesidad; porque he aprendido a contentarme con lo que tengo. Sé lo que es tener poco, y sé lo que es tener mucho en todas y cada una de las circunstancias, he aprendido el secreto de estar bien alimentado y de tener hambre, de tener abundancia y de tener necesidad, todo lo puedo en aquel que me fortalece".

 

Terminaré mi reflexión con esta pregunta para todos nosotros, incluido yo mismo: "¿Cuál es mi respuesta al amor extravagante de Dios por mí?"

 

Permítanme terminar con una hermosa canción de adoración de Sovereign Grace que nos recuerda que debemos volver nuestros ojos a Jesús: "Vuelve tus ojos".

Maria meminyaki Yesus

1 Enam hari sebelum Paskah Yesus datang ke Betania, tempat tinggal Lazarus yang dibangkitkan Yesus dari antara orang mati. 2 Di situ diadakan perjamuan untuk Dia dan Marta melayani, sedang salah seorang yang turut makan dengan Yesus adalah Lazarus. 3 Maka Maria mengambil setengah kati minyak narwastu murni yang mahal harganya, lalu meminyaki kaki Yesus dan menyekanya dengan rambutnya; dan bau minyak semerbak di seluruh rumah itu. 4 Tetapi Yudas Iskariot, seorang dari murid-murid Yesus, yang akan segera menyerahkan Dia, berkata: 5 "Mengapa minyak narwastu ini tidak dijual tiga ratus dinar dan uangnya diberikan kepada orang-orang miskin?" 6 Hal itu dikatakannya bukan karena ia memperhatikan nasib orang-orang miskin, melainkan karena ia adalah seorang pencuri; ia sering mengambil uang yang disimpan dalam kas yang dipegangnya. 7 Maka kata Yesus: "Biarkanlah dia melakukan hal ini mengingat hari penguburan-Ku. 8 Karena orang-orang miskin selalu ada pada kamu, tetapi Aku tidak akan selalu ada pada kamu."

Persepakatan untuk membunuh Lazarus

Barangsiapa melayani Aku, ia akan dihormati Bapa.

Merefleksikan bacaan kitab suci ini, sambil menghitung hari-hari menjelang penangkapan Yesus, termasuk orang banyak yang bersukacita dengan melambaikan daun-daun palem dan berseru " Hosana ! Diberkatilah Dia yang datang dalam nama Tuhan - Raja Israel ". Keseluruhan cerita ini menggambarkan sifat yang berubah-ubah dan hati manusia yang menipu. Hal ini sangat berbeda dengan ketabahan dan fokus yang pasti dari Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus.

Tuhan kita melihat langsung ke dalam hati kita yang penuh dosa dan mengetahui bahwa kita semua sedang bergumul dalam dosa. Dia telah dengan setia menyusuri jalan penuh darah dan menyakitkan menuju Kalvari, membayar dosa-dosa setiap laki-laki, perempuan, dan anak-anak yang mengakui Dia sebagai Tuhan dan Juruselamat pribadinya. Rasul Paulus menulis dengan jelas dalam Roma 3:23 = " karena semua orang telah berbuat dosa dan telah kehilangan kemuliaan Allah, dan oleh kasih karunia telah dibenarkan dengan cuma-cuma karena penebusan dalam Kristus Yesus. " Tuhan kita secara terbuka memberitakan tentang pengorbanan Tuhan yang akan datang kepada murid-muridNya. Dia dengan patuh membiarkan diriNya menuruti kehendak Bapa dan menerima cawan murka Allah sebagai harga penebusan yang sempurna bagi dosa umat manusia. Sebagaimana yang ditulis oleh rasul Yohanes dengan indahnya dalam Yoh 3:16 - " Karena begitu besar kasih Allah akan dunia ini, sehingga Ia telah mengaruniakan anakNya yang tunggal, supaya setiap orang yang percaya kepadaNya tidak binasa, melainkan beroleh hidup yang kekal. "

Ketika saya merenungkan hidup saya sebelum dan sesudah mengenal Yesus, sungguh hal itu membuat saya menangis berterima kasih yang mendalam betapa seorang juruselamat yang tidak berdosa mau mati untuk seorang pendosa seperti saya. Tetapi inilah mengapa sebabnya Tuhan kita Yesus datang ke dunia. Dia tidak datang ke dunia untuk menikmati kehidupan istimewa bak keluarga kerajaan. Kenyataannya, Dia sedemikian rendah hati sehingga Raja diatas segala raja mau lahir dalam palungan binatang yang hina di kelilingi oleh binatang-binatang ternak dan orangtua nya.

Oleh karena itu, apa tanggapan saya terhadap belas kasihan dan anugerah Tuhan yang tidak layak saya terima ini, yang sudah di bayar oleh darah Yesus ? Akankah tanggapan saya seperti sebuah kasih yang berlebihan seperti Maria yang meminyaki kaki Yesus dengan setengah kati minyak narwastu murni (seharga upah kerja setahun) ? Atau akankah aku hitung-hitungan seperti Yudas (yang mengkhianati gurunya seharga seorang budak rendahan ) ? Atau akankah aku seperti orang banyak yang tidak diketahui nama nya yang menyanyikan pujian sukacita bagi Yesus ketika semuanya berjalan dengan baik, dan tetapi meludahi wajah Tuhan kita ketika Dia dihakimi dan dibunuh ? Atau saya seperti para pemimpin agama, yang hatinya diracuni oleh kecemburuan dan kesombongan keagamaan sehingga tidak mampu mengenali wajah Anak Allah yang berjalan di tengah-tengah mereka ?

Bisakah saya mengambil sikap yang benar dari rasul Paulus yang menuliskan surat-surat yang menakjubkan tentang semangat dan sukacita besar dibalik jeruji penjara, dan membagikan rahasia sukacita dan kepuasannya ditengah-tengah ujian hidup. Dalam Filipi 4:10-13 " Aku sangat bersukacita dalam Tuhan, bahwa akhirnya pikiranmu dan perasaanmu bertumbuh kembali untuk aku. Memang selalu ada perhatianmu, tetapi tidak ada kesempatan bagimu. Kukatakan ini bukanlah karena kekurangan, sebab aku telah belajar mencukupkan diri dalam segala keadaan. Aku tahu apa itu kekurangan dan aku tahu apa itu kelimpahan. Dalam segala hal dan dalam segala perkara tidak ada sesuatu yang merupakan rahasia bagiku; baik dalam hal kenyang, maupun dalam hal kelaparan, baik dalam hal kelimpahan maupun dalam hal kekurangan. Segala perkara dapat kutanggung di dalam Dia yang memberi kekuatan kepadaku."

Saya akan mengakhiri refleksi saya dengan pertanyaan refleksi ini untuk kita semua termasuk saya sendiri : " Apa tanggapan saya untuk kasih Tuhan yang luar biasa bagi saya ?"

Biarkan saya mengakhiri dengan sebuah lagu penyembahan yang indah oleh Sovereign Grace yang mengingatkan kita untuk mengarahkan mata kita kepada Yesus : " Turn your eyes " .

John 12: 1 -26

Mary Anoints Jesus

1 Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 2 There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. 3 Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus' feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, 5 'Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii[b] and the money given to the poor?' 6 (He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) 7 Jesus said,' Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial. 8 You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.'

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

9 When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death as well, 11 since it was on account of him that many of the Jews were deserting and were believing in Jesus.

Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem

12 The next day the great crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting,

'Hosanna!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord—the King of Israel!'

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it; as it is written:

15 'Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!'

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written of him and had been done to him. 17 So the crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify. 18 It was also because they heard that he had performed this sign that the crowd went to meet him. 19 The Pharisees then said to one another, 'You see, you can do nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!'

20 Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, 'Sir, we wish to see Jesus.' 22 Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 Jesus answered them, 'The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honour.

Reflecting on the Gospel passage, recounting the days leading up to Jesus' arrest, including the excited crowd waving palms and shouting "Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the LORD – the King of Israel. The entire account portrays the inconstancy and deceptions of the human heart. This is in stark contrast to the steadfastness and single-minded focus of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

Our Lord looks straight into our sinful hearts and knows that all of us are floundering in sin. He had steadfastly walked the painful, blood-stricken road to Calvary, paying for the sins of every man, woman and child who acknowledges Him as personal LORD and Saviour. As St. Paul wrote insightfully in Romans 3:23-24: "since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Our Lord's open sharing to His disciple about the impending sacrifice of our Lord. He obediently subjected Himself to God's will and received the cup of God's wrath as the perfect redemption price for humanity's sins. As St. John wrote so beautifully in John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life". 

As I reflected on my life before and after knowing Jesus, it brings tears of deep gratitude how a sinless Saviour could die for a sinner like me. But this is exactly why our LORD Jesus came to Earth. He didn't come to Earth to enjoy a privileged life of royalty. In fact He was so humble that the King of kings was born in a lowly animal feed trough surrounded by farm animals and His parents. 

Therefore, what is my response to this undeserved mercy and grace of God, paid with Jesus' blood? Will my response be an extravagant love, like Mary who anointed Jesus' feet with a pound of pure nard (worth a year's wages)? Or will I be calculative like Judas (who betrayed his Master for the lowly price of a slave)? Or will I be like the nameless crowd who sing joyful praises of Jesus when things are going well, and yet spit on the face of our Lord during His trials and execution? Or am I like the religious leaders, with hearts poisoned by jealousy and religious pride, unable to even recognize the face of God's Son who walked in their midst?

Can I adopt the right attitude of St. Paul who wrote wonderful epistles of great encouragements and joy from behind prison bars, and shared the secrets of his joy and contentment amidst life's trials. In Philippians 4:10-13: "I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me, but had no opportunity to show it. Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. "

I will end my reflection with this reflection question for all of us including, myself: "What is my response to God's extravagant love for me?"

"Hal itu dikatakannya bukan dari dirinya sendiri, tetapi sebagai Imam Besar pada tahun itu ia bernubuat, bahwa Yesus akan mati untuk bangsa itu, dan bukan untuk bangsa itu saja, tetapi juga untuk mengumpulkan dan mempersatukan anak-anak Allah yang tercerai berai." – Yohanes 11: 51 – 52

Imam-imam kepala dan orang-orang Farisi mengatur pertemuan untuk mencari cara bagaimana menghancurkan pribadi Yesus. Mereka tidak melihat Yesus sebagai penyelamat bangsa melainkan sebagai ancaman bagi bangsa. Kayafas, yang menjadi Imam Besar pada tahun itu, membuat nubuat bahwa lebih baik satu orang mati untuk bangsa itu daripada seluruh bangsa dihancurkan. Yesus dilahirkan untuk mati. Kematian-Nya bukanlah akhir dari segalanya tetapi merupakan awal kebangkitan. Yesus tidak hanya mati untuk bangsa Yahudi saja, Alkitab dengan sangat jelas menyatakan bahwa Dia akan mengumpulkan kepada-Nya semua anak-anak Allah yang tercerai berai. 

Kita membaca dalam Injil Yohanes 10:16 - "Ada lagi pada-Ku domba-domba lain, yang bukan dari kandang ini; domba-domba itu harus Kutuntun juga dan mereka akan mendengarkan suara-Ku dan mereka akan menjadi satu kawanan dengan satu gembala." Yesus tidak mengecualikan atau menghindari siapapun. Dia mengundang semua kepada-Nya. Mereka yang mendengarkan suara-Nya, mereka yang mengikuti perintah-Nya dan bersedia taat kepada-Nya akan diselamatkan dan tidak tersesat.

Seperti yang kita baca dalam Injil Yohanes 3:16 - "Karena begitu besar kasih Allah akan dunia ini, sehingga Ia telah mengaruniakan Anak-Nya yang tunggal, supaya setiap orang yang percaya kepada-Nya tidak binasa, melainkan beroleh hidup yang kekal." Sudah menjadi rencana ilahi dari Allah Bapa bahwa dunia bisa diselamatkan melalui Anak-Nya. Tindakan penyelamatan ini, seperti yang kita ketahui, penuh  dengan penderitaan. 

Sebagai anak-anak Allah, kita juga bersama-sama bertanggung jawab untuk ikut serta dalam misi Yesus, yaitu menyelamatkan semua jiwa. Seperti Yesus, ini mungkin akan menjadi misi yang menyakitkan tetapi dengan kasih karunia dan kuasa dari Allah kita bisa melakukannya. Kita perlu mencari yang hilang, meninggalkan yang sembilan puluh sembilan. Mari kita membantu Yesus dalam mengumpulkan bersama anak-anak Allah yang tercerai berai.

Filii Dei | Children of God | EN | IN | ES

"He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but to gather into one the dispersed children of God."- John 11: 51-52

The chief priests and the Pharisees arranged a meeting in order to find out ways to destroy the person of Jesus. They did not see Jesus as a savior of the nation but rather as a threat to the nation. Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, makes a prophecy that it is better to have one man die for the people than to have the whole nation destroyed. Jesus was born to die. His death was not an end in itself but one of resurrection. Jesus died not just for the Jewish nation alone, the Scripture makes it very clear that he will gather to himself all the dispersed children of God.

We read in the Gospel of John 10:16 – "I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd." Jesus does not exclude or avoid anyone. He invites all to him. Those who listen to his voice, those who follow his instructions and are willing to obey him, will be saved and not lost.

As we read in the Gospel of John 3:16- "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." It was already in the divine plan of God the Father that the world might be saved through his Son. This saving act as we all know was a painful one. 

As children of God, we are also equally responsible to partake in the mission of Jesus and that is to save all the souls. Just like Jesus it might be a painful mission but with the grace and power from God we can do it. We need to search for the lost one leaving behind the ninety nine. Let us help Jesus in gathering together the dispersed children of God.

Juan 11: 1-6

Estaba entonces enfermo un hombre llamado Lázaro, de Betania, la ciudad de María y de su hermana Marta. 2 Era aquella María que ungió al Señor con aceite fragante y le secó los pies con sus cabellos, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo. 3 entonces las hermanas enviaron a decirle: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo. 4 cuando Jesús oyó esto, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, sino para gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado a través de él”. 5 Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro. 6 Entonces, cuando oyó que estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días más en el lugar donde estaba. 7 Después de esto dijo a los discípulos: “Volvamos a Judea”.

Hermosas mariposas

Cada mañana durante mi caminata matutina, aprovecho para capturar la belleza de las flores que encuentro en mi camino y me maravillo al ver algunas mariposas increíblemente hermosas. No solo son atractivas, sino que también desempeñan un papel crucial en nuestro ecosistema al actuar como polinizadores y formar parte de la cadena alimentaria, lo que indica un entorno estable y equilibrado. Estas mariposas experimentan un proceso llamado metamorfosis, una palabra griega que significa transformación o cambio de forma, que dura de 2 a 6 semanas, dependiendo de la especie.

La metamorfosis comprende cuatro etapas: huevo, larva, pupa y adulto. Comienza cuando las mariposas hembras ponen sus huevos en las plantas hospederas. Los huevos eclosionan en orugas en la etapa de larva; estas orugas comen mucho, sus cuerpos se expanden y mudan su piel varias veces. En la etapa de pupa, las orugas alcanzan su tamaño adulto, dejan de comer y se convierten en crisálidas en búsqueda de sitios seguros para el proceso de crecimiento celular. Finalmente, en la etapa adulta, emergen listas para explorar el mundo con sus alas completamente desarrolladas y secas.

En el pasaje bíblico de hoy, se nos cuenta la crónica de Lázaro y sus dos hermanas, María y Marta, quienes tenían una relación íntima con Jesús. Jesús pasaba tiempo con ellos, María ungía a Jesús con aceite fragante y le limpiaba los pies con sus cabellos, y Jesús los amaba (Juan 11:2; Lucas 10:38-42; Juan 11:3-5). Estas dos hermanas enviaron un mensaje a Jesús notificándole la enfermedad de Lázaro, esperando probablemente que Jesús viniera inmediatamente a curarlo. Sin embargo, Jesús esperó dos días antes de visitarlos. Cuando finalmente llegó, Lázaro ya llevaba cuatro días en el sepulcro. Este pasaje nos muestra que, así como Lázaro y sus hermanas, amados por Dios, enfrentaron adversidades como la enfermedad y la muerte, nosotros, como hijos de Dios, también enfrentaremos desafíos en la vida.

Seguir a Jesús no garantiza una vida fácil y sin problemas ni la inmediata satisfacción de nuestros deseos. Ser cristianos implica ser resilientes frente a las adversidades, obedeciendo los mandamientos y las palabras de Dios, aunque no siempre sea fácil. Sin embargo, podemos confiar en el amor, la providencia y las fortalezas que Dios nos brinda.

A menudo nos preguntamos por qué debemos enfrentar ciertas situaciones difíciles en nuestras vidas. Sin embargo, al igual que Jesús "pospuso" su llegada para glorificar a Dios en la resurrección de Lázaro, nuestras adversidades también pueden ser oportunidades para reflexionar, adorar a Dios y experimentar un crecimiento personal. Estos momentos nos desafían a profundizar nuestra fe y confianza en Dios, transformándonos para su gloria.

Así como las mariposas experimentan una metamorfosis para convertirse en criaturas hermosas y beneficiosas, nosotros, como hijos de Dios, somos llamados a transformarnos y crecer en nuestra relación con Él, arraigados en su amor y listos para enfrentar cualquier adversidad con fortaleza, sabiduría y fe. En cada desafío, podemos ser más que vencedores a través de aquel que nos ama (Romanos 8:37).
