Respondit servus | The servant

O Lord, God of my master, Abraham, please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, AbrahamGenesis 24:12 (NLT)

How do we discern God’s will? How can we become good servants? How do we know what He wants us to do next?

Genesis 24 demonstrates how God provides guidance for those who faithfully seek His will through prayer. He graciously provides answers to our prayers in His perfect way and perfect time, according to His perfect will.

Abraham’s servant submitted to his master. He pledged and prayerfully pursued a wife for Isaac. God started providing according to the servant's prayer even before the servant even finished praying.

The good servant demonstrated his faith in action. He did not rely on his senses for spiritual discernment. Instead, he remained calm, patient, and fully dependent on God’s confirmation. He was confident God would faithfully answer his request and show him the right thing at the right time. He knew God is a trustworthy, and that God will clearly answer his specific prayers. With each provision, the servant praised and worshiped the Lord with a joyful heart.

Genesis 24 challenges me to submit to authority and prayerfully wait on and anticipate God’s perfect way and time. The intimate relationship between God and the good servant (Abraham’s servant) through prayer inspires me to humbly and fully depend on God and trust His perfect faithfulness, lovingly connect with God, and always seek God’s perfect will through prayer.
