"See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you." – Luke 10:19

Jesus had many followers with him apart from the twelve disciples who he had chosen specially.  They listened to his teachings and went along with them wherever he went. In this passage we hear about seventy of his followers who come back and report to him about the mission task given to them. It is written that the seventy returned with joy because in the name of Jesus they could cast out demons. For this Jesus is replying to them that he has given them authority over all the power of satan. The authority and power comes from Jesus. It is a gift from Jesus for his followers who believe and trust him.

In one of the villages when they are attacked by wild animals like elephants quite often, they approached one senior catholic priest. The priest told them that he will pray for them and also asked them to recite loudly walking around the village the word of God:  "See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you." – Luke 10:19.  So the villagers did as the priest told them and it truly worked. After that they were never attacked or disturbed by the elephants.

It shows how powerful this particular verse is. Repeating it quite often will help us to overcome all the powers of the enemy. This particular verse is not just used against physical attacks of the enemy but even for emotional and spiritual attacks.

The promise of Jesus; let us imprint it in our hearts that "nothing will hurt you." Let us thank Jesus for his words which are so powerful.
